Loving Others October 4, 2007

We know that we are supposed to “reach our friends for Christ” and “share the gospel” with people. But many of us find it difficult to know how to do this and therefore end up rarely “sharing the gospel” at all. This can be frustrating and leave us short of fulfilling Christ’s command to make disciples. So, what does it mean to share the gospel and reach your friends for Christ?

Quite simply, it is: live your life, be sincere, and talk about God in a genuine way. If God’s name doesn’t ever come up, then that reveals much about your closeness to him. If you don’t know what to say about God, that is ok. It just means that you need to ask someone that knows more than you. If you think sharing the Gospel is merely passing out tracts and walking up to random strangers and quizzing them on their religious beliefs, then I say that is bold, yet you fall short. Those are vital, helpful tools. But they do not cover it all.

Most importantly, don’t act like you know everything there is to know about God and then live your life as though he doesn’t matter one bit. Remember, Jesus was more angry towards the hypocritical Pharisees than anyone else. Be sincere, have a genuine concern for people, and let love be what you are known for. That is sharing the Gospel.

So far this year we have done a series on relationships. Luke talked the first week about our friendships, Brooke talked next about dating relationships, and Ashley talked this week about our relationships with our parents. Next week, Brad will talk about our relationships with people who are hard for us to love. If you miss any of the talks you can listen to the podcast on iTunes by searching “Conway K Life”.

Friends (Luke):
Are you sharpening your friends?
What are you looking for in your friendships?
Proverbs 17:17, Proverbs 27:17, John 15:12,13

Dating (Brooke):
Are you being patient and watching for the right things?
When you get the “go” from God are you taking the initiative?
Genesis 24, Ruth 3

Parents (Ashley):
Does your obedience to God show in your obedience to your parents?
Have you tried fighting like you’re in a musical yet? Do it!
Ephesians 6:1-3, Colossians 3:20, 1 John 3:18,19
